Joint Injection
If a health care professional or physiotherapist has diagnosed an inflammation either inside or around one or more of your joints, a highly effective way of treating this inflammation is to inject a mild steroid solution and local anaesthetic into the relevant areas.
The Joint Injection clinic is led by Dr Raymond Lee, GP
Clinics are usually held on a Tuesday afternoon between 3.00pm - 5.30pm at Howard Medical Practice.
Referrals are accepted for joint injection / peri-articular injections of :
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Wrist
- Finger
- Hip
- Knee
- Feet
Referrals will NOT be accepted for:
- Patients for whom the diagnosis is in doubt
- Patients for whom a consultant rheumatologist or orthopaedic opinion is required
These patients should be referred to hospital in the usual manner.

Urgent referrals should be clearly marked URGENT.
Patients are informed of their appointment by post or telephone call.
The Joint Injection service offers a short wait for consultation and the outcome of clinical attendance are available to the referring health care professional within 7 working days.
