Echocardiography

An Echocardiogram is a simple ultrasound examination that looks at the structure and function of the heart.

The echocardiograph clinic is conducted by Mrs Rekha Mistry and Mrs Samantha Whitworth.

Clinics are held most Thursday's between 8.00am -3.00pm and occasional Friday's at Manor House Glossop.

Echocardiograms are performed using the LogiqE machine.

Referrals are accepted from all primary and secondary health care professionals in Tameside and Glossop.

Referrals are accepted for routine echocardiography investigation only. Patients appropriate for echocardiography would be those with:

  • Known Heart Failure
  • Risk factors for Left Ventricular Dysfunction but who are asymptomatic
  • Clinical or ECG evidence of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy
  • Atrial Fibrillation
  • Unexplained murmur

Referrals will NOT be accepted for:

  • Emergencies

These patients should be referred to hospital in the usual manner.

The echocardiography service offers a short wait for investigations and reports are available to the referring health care professional within 2-3 working days.

Urgent referrals should be clearly marked URGENT.

Patients are informed of their appointment by post or telephone call.
